About

Scott Chamberlain was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. For decades, the desert surrounding Mesa has been a source of inspiration for his plein-air paintings. His formal training includes an eye opening year learning from renowned classic scholar and painter Frank Mason at the art students league in New York City during the early 1970s. Chamberlain has been painting most of his life, and he’s always had what he considers an affinity for depicting the discarded and downtrodden. He often finds them on the streets and invites them to his studio to sit for a portrait. Chamberlain talks about his subjects with fondness and respect; seeing the dignity beyond their circumstances. Most recently and in addition to portraying those whose tale might not readily be told, Chamberlain has turned his attention to the wild horses of the Salt River, finding satisfaction in painting their sunlit forms while they wade and forage in the river.
