From the Artist:  My mother in law, Mary Ann, was an adventurer, She purchased a ninety-nine year lease on a little beach cottage located close to the water in Cholla Bay. The bay is part of narrow link of land
that joins the Baja peninsula to the Mexican main land. We began making the trek from Mesa to her
beach cabin in the mid- seventies. The closest town, Puerto Penasco or "Rocky Point," had been
established on a rocky point overlooking the Sea of Cortez. The fishing was good in the bay and before
the town existed, fishermen would make camps in the area. The town had sprung from those fishing
camps in the early twenties. It is said that Al Capone had used the laid-back surroundings to recreate
and lay low.
